It is tradition that every year we attend the Ogden Lights and then head over to Farr's Ice Cream. Why we must include a round of ice cream after freezing our little tails off, I'm not sure. But it is what it is and I recall heading to Farr's since my childhood memories began. This year was no exception so we gathered my brother's family and Grandma and headed off to the lights. Each year Ogden seems to do better and worse at the same time. The lights were nice and the miniature houses full of toys and figurines are fancy, but as my brother and I reminisced, we remembered the puppet shows being put on by people in the little houses and the constant stream of singers and carolers. It all sounds so picturesque and I am beginning to sound so old ("Back in my day..."), but I'm sure my parents were about as thrilled at it all as I am now. Yet we persevere.
This year we were able to see a real dancing horse and they added a "train" that picks up passengers from several stops in downtown Ogden. We parked at the Union Station and hopped on the train only to find out the reason why it wasn't moving. It was stuck. Someone had parked in the driveway and the train had no way out. After several minutes the driver arrived and moved his car. The train ride added to the fun atmosphere for the kids, but by the end of an hour we were all cold and ready for some ice cream.
