Holy Mosquitos, Batman!

Yesterday, CDE had a 7:00 game. Alan wasn't home yet, so between Fox's game ending at 6 and the 7 o'clock game we got dressed, had dinner and headed out the door to get to their game just in time. Sometime between the two games the wind picked up and the temperature dropped. After dropping CDE off at their game, I realized the grass was still wet and I didn't bring a lawn chair. So, Fox and I headed back home for chairs and a jacket (about a 3-4 minute drive). When we got back we settled in for a fairly intense game. But, sometime around the half, we got some very unwelcome mosquitos. I'm not talking one or two.... I'm talking thousands. The poor kids playing soccer were not just running down the line to make a goal, they were running down the line to get away from the mosquitos. Poor Emily was playing goalie and had a hard time staying focused on the ball because she had huge welts (bites) on the back of her legs! I finally sent Fox to the car because he was still in his soccer uniform.

None of us left the field without several bites. The coach even pulled her own son from the game and told him to get into the car, making the rest of the kids finish out the game!

Later that evening I had to sneak out and fill up my neighbor's trash can with our extra trash. I couldn't bear the thought of going out without protection, so I sprayed 1/2 a can of DEET (the strongest you can buy), did my duty and came back in for a shower. I have learned from this whole experience though that we need to add a few dozen cans of deet to our first aid/emergency kit. I guess that's what you get when you live in a swamp!

So I took Taylor to her practice tonight and I totally know what you mean...they were everywhere...I think that's crazy that the coach put her own kid in the car...nut job? (unless it's someone we know)...than not nut job!
