The Garden

Saturday, Alan and I (mostly Alan) spend the day working in the garden. He borrowed a friend's trailer and we planned to get most of the materials that we need in order to build our pathways. The first plan of action was to get some mulch for our awful clay soil and till it into the garden. We needed to do this now, since our future garden will be much smaller and curvy surrounded by bricks, so there will be no way to rota-till in the future. Hence, the thought to add what we needed to add to the soil now. I called around to several businesses and found that they were all out of mulch, but it typically sold for about $40/cubic yard. This was a good thing, because Alan had heard that he could get mulch at the landfill in Layton for $10. With no business phone number up there, we decided to risk the gas money and check it out. Alan returned with a full trailer full of mulch, and yep, it was only $10. What a steal!

After tilling the mulch in, Alan started to dig. This took several hours, and of course I had to run our other errands around the city during that time. Upon my return, he had much of it dug out and only the "circle" in the back remains.

We then had to take a long break and head out for Alan's Father's Day gift. I'll have to let Alan post on the fun times that was!

We got that mulch too...it came all nice and full of weeds...I wish I would have known it's what you were getting, hopefully you won't get the weeds.
